Prado for Oakland City Council District 5

Committed to a safer, more vibrant District 5

Dominic Prado

About Me

My name is Dominic Prado, and I am running for Oakland City Council District 5, representing the vibrant Fruitvale District and beyond. Over the past two years, as a business owner at the Fruitvale Public Market, I have witnessed firsthand how crimes, neglect, and lack of investment have adversely affected our community and made our streets unsafe for residents.

Key Issues

Public Safety

In 2023, I began working with other merchants in the Fruitvale area to seek solutions to the problems plaguing the area. Eventually, we organized with more businesses to create an official group. We worked with the Oakland Police Department to bring a security detail to the area, including more patrol officers, an OPD tactical vehicle stationed on International Boulevard, and two motorcycle traffic enforcement units. We helped acquire a $250,000 grant from the City of Oakland to pay for safety ambassadors during the holiday season.

Traffic Safety

After witnessing a horrific traffic death on 39th Ave & International Ave, we began advocating for stronger safety measures along the AC Transit bus lane. Through our efforts we helped to implement a speed cushion pilot program on International Ave, which will take place later this year.

Latino Cultural District

We advocated and helped pass an ordinance that proclaimed Fruitvale as a Latino Cultural District. I aim to use the Cultural District as a means to address the blight and start a new era of beautification in the district.

I will continue to bring awareness, support & resources to District 5!

As your City Council Member, I will continue to work with the community regarding public and traffic safety and establish the Latino Cultural District, which will make Fruitvale a cleaner and more vibrant area.
